Rare bird spotted for the first time in 140 years on Fergusson Island; pic released
Scientists have 'rediscovered' the Black-naped Pheasant-Pigeon after spotting it some 140 years after its last sighting. The rare large, ground-dwelling pigeon, was photographed with a remote camera trap at the end of a month-long search of Fergusson Island in Papua New Guinea. Scientists hope the rare bird's rediscovery will provide a basis for its conservation.
