Rare bourbon virus detected in New York for the first time

A rare tick-borne disease, Bourbon virus, has been detected in New York for the first time. The patient, a 67-year-old man from Suffolk County, is believed to have contracted the virus after being bitten by lone star ticks while working outdoors. Currently, there is no vaccine to prevent Bourbon virus infection and no specific antiviral treatment.
