Rare flight delivered snakebite antivenom during 9/11 grounding

On September 11, 2001, Florida snake handler Lawrence Van Sertima suffered a deadly inland taipan bite. Amid the nationwide civilian aviation grounding, the FAA granted a rare exception. On September 12, a private jet was authorised to retrieve life-saving antivenom from the San Diego Zoo. The cross-country flight succeeded, delivering the medicine to Miami and saving his life.
