Researchers have scientifically recorded the non-venomous Sistan sand boa in India for first time after finding three specimens in Rajasthan's Sikar district in 2025. The snakes were identified through their body shape, colour and scales. Previously known from Iran and Pakistan, the species resembles India's red sand boa. Researchers said further surveys are needed to determine its distribution.
