Razor-wire fencing in North Bengal elephant corridors falls by 74%
Razor-wire fencing across assessed tea estates in North Bengal's elephant corridors declined 74.2%, from 134.7 km in 2019 to 34.8 km in 2026, a reassessment by Wildlife Trust of India and SPOAR found. The change followed years of engagement with locals and government agencies. The fencing forced elephants to divert and sometimes caused serious injuries to them and other wildlife.
