RBI enables automatic loan relief in disaster-hit regions

The RBI has allowed banks and NBFCs to extend relief measures to borrowers affected by natural calamities without waiting for their requests. Borrowers will be given an opt-out window of 135 days from the date of declaration of the calamity. Lenders will also be required to make alternate arrangements to ensure continuity of banking services in affected areas.
