The Reserve Bank of India has not had a female Governor ever since it was formed on April 1, 1935. However, the apex bank had three female Deputy Governors, KJ Udeshi being the first appointed in 2003. The RBI on Saturday appointed its 24th Governor, Urjit Patel, who will succeed Raghuram Rajan from September 4, 2016.
