RBI retains Tata Sons in Upper-Layer NBFC category

The RBI on Thursday included Tata Sons in its list of upper-layer non-banking financial companies (NBFCs). Firms in this category face stricter regulatory oversight and must list on stock exchanges within three years. However, the central bank said the classification would not affect Tata Sons' pending application to surrender its NBFC registration.
