RBI to begin plastic currency note trial with ₹10, ₹20: Report

The RBI will soon launch a pilot for polymer banknotes, likely beginning with ₹10 and ₹20 denominations, NDTV Profit reported. A nationwide rollout could start in 2027. The RBI's note-printing arm has invited global firms to submit expressions of interest to supply polymer substrate. Notably, the plastic notes will not replace the existing paper currency from the market.
