Religious conversion only for reservation is fraud on Constitution: Supreme Court

Supreme Court has upheld a Madras HC decision denying Scheduled Caste (SC) certificate to a Christian-born woman who claimed to be Hindu while applying for a job. It said that religious conversion only to avail reservation benefits, without actual belief, 'defeats social ethos' of the policy of reservation. Such a move would "amount to fraud on the Constitution", it added.
