Replacing one bad habit with another: Ladakh MP as new liquor policy introduced to curb drugs

The new excise policy in Ladakh, which allows retail sale of hard liquor, has attracted criticism. This comes after officials said the policy aimed to discourage the consumption of narcotics and smuggled/spurious alcohol in Ladakh. "It's beyond my comprehension that the administration is trying to wean people off one bad habit by introducing another," Ladakh MP Haji Hanifa Jan said.
