Research shows colonial policies reshaped mangroves

Colonial authorities classified and managed mangroves primarily as forests rather than wetlands and procedures developed to exploit wood of terrestrial forests were applied to mangroves. This approach influenced their management and contributed to changes and degradation of mangrove ecosystems across India.
