Rising humidity turning oldest mummies into 'black slime'
The world's oldest mummified human remains, in northern Chile, are turning into black slime due to rising humidity levels associated with climate change. Believed to belong to the ancient Chinchorro hunter-gatherers, the mummies have been dated nearly 7,000 years old. Local officials have applied to the United Nations' cultural agency, UNESCO, to have them recognised as a world heritage site.
