Rupee closes at lifetime low, nears 97-mark against US dollar

The Indian rupee closed at a fresh lifetime low of 96.53 against the US dollar on Tuesday, nearing the 97-mark. ​The currency touched a record intraday low of 96.6150. With the latest decline, the rupee has now weakened more than 7.5% since the start of 2026 and has logged its eighth consecutive session of losses.
