Indian author Ruskin Bond was born to Anglo-Indian parents on May 19, 1934, in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh. Bond's first novel was 'The Room on the Roof' and the book also won him the John Llewelyn Rhys Memorial Prize (1957). The author of more than 500 published works, has received Padma Shri (1991), Sahitya Academy Award (1992), and Padma Bhushan (2014).
