Russia drops Taliban from list of banned terrorist groups

Russia has lifted its ban on the Taliban, which it had designated as a terrorist organisation for over 20 years, in a move to normalise ties with Afghanistan. Last year, Russia President Vladimir Putin described Taliban as an "ally" in fighting terrorism, especially after ISIS-Khorasan attacked Moscow in March 2024, which killed 145 people.
