Russia President Putin recognises 2 breakaway regions in Ukraine as independent

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday recognised two breakaway regions in Ukraine as independent. Russian-backed separatists in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, collectively known as the Donbass, broke away from Ukrainian government control in 2014 and proclaimed themselves independent "people's republics". Putin also ordered the deployment of soldiers to the two breakaway regions.
