Russian court terms gay rights group extremist, bans its operation

A Russian court has termed a top gay rights group “extremist” and imposed a ban on its activities. Russian authorities have tightened restrictions on LGBTQ+ activists in recent years, a move that President Vladimir Putin has framed as part of efforts to uphold traditional family values. Earlier, Russia added "LGBT ​movement" to list of ​extremist ⁠and terrorist organisations in 2024.
