Russian pilot killed self with grenade to avoid ISIS capture

The pilot of a Russian warplane, which was shot down in Syria on Saturday, had killed himself with a grenade to avoid being captured by ISIS militants, Russia's Defence Ministry has said. Major Roman Filipov fought with the militants till the last minute, it added. The officer was posthumously awarded the 'Hero of Russia' medal, the country's highest honorary title.
