Russian volcano causing purple sunrises, sunsets: Research

A remote Russian volcano Raikoke's eruption in June is being called the reason behind the recent sunrises and sunsets with a purple hue in the Northern Hemisphere. According to researchers, the volcano released sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere, which led to the creation of tiny particles called aerosols. The aerosols scatter sunlight which results in the purple-hued skies.
