Sadanand Date, IPS officer who took on Kasab, appointed Maha DGP

Senior IPS officer Sadanand Date has been appointed as the new Maharashtra DGP, the state government announced on Wednesday. He would succeed DGP Rashmi Shukla, who is set to retire on January 3 next year. Date, who was posted as the additional commissioner of police during the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, rescued a lift operator held hostage by Ajmal Kasab.
