Salesforce on Monday announced the acquisition of word processing app startup Quip for $582 million. Founded in 2012, Quip has raised $45 million in funding so far and is in direct competition with Google Docs, Sheets, Microsoft's Word and Excel. Quip Co-founder and CEO Bret Taylor was previously the CTO at Facebook after the social network acquired Taylor's startup FriendFeed.
