Sam Altman to oppose US approval for AI models before launch

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman will oppose proposals for the US requiring AI models to be approved by the government before being launched to the public, the firm said in a statement. Altman will meet with lawmakers in Washington this week and ask Congress to increase funding for AI testing by the Commerce Department. He will meet House Speaker Mike Johnson.
