Sammy Basso, longest-living survivor of progeria, passes away at 28

Sammy Basso, who was the longest-living survivor of the rare genetic disease progeria, passed away aged 28. Born in 1995 in Italy's Schio, Basso was diagnosed with progeria at age two. Progeria causes people to age rapidly, leading them to appear older than they are, with a reduced quality of life and a life expectancy of 13.5 years without treatment.
