Sarah Joseph returns Sahitya Akademi award

Malayalam novelist Sarah Joseph returned her 2004 Sahitya Akademi award that she won for “Aalahayuda Penmakkal” on Saturday. Joseph spoke against the murder of a man accused of killing a cow and consuming beef and alleged “stifling of free thinking and trampling of democratic ideals”. Malayalam poet K Satchidanandan also announced his resignation from the Akademi’s executive board on Saturday.
