Satellite captures Hurricane Polo from space, eye of storm seen in video

Hurricane Polo rapidly intensified from a tropical storm into a Category 5 hurricane off southwestern Mexico on September 22. NOAA's GOES-18 satellite captured lightning flashing around its eye and powerful thunderstorms in the eyewall. Hurricane Polo recorded winds of 285 kmph and a central pressure of 892 millibars. The storm threatened Mexico with heavy rainfall, flooding and mudslides.
