SC asks Centre to extend tribunal members' tenure until new appointments

The Supreme Court asked the Centre to consider extending retiring tribunal members' tenure by a month until fresh appointments are made, warning vacancies should not disrupt functioning. The bench also extended tenure of three NGT members as an interim measure. The Centre informed 248 tribunal members are eligible for extension under the Tribunal Reforms Act, 2026.
