SC bans mining, factories within 1 km of national parks, sanctuaries

There can be no mining and factories in a one-kilometre buffer zone around wildlife sanctuaries and national parks, Supreme Court said. If existing Eco-Sensitive Zone goes beyond buffer zone or if any statutory instrument prescribes a higher limit, then such extension shall prevail, SC added. Manufacturing and similar activities underway along these zones will go on only with official permission.
