SC delivers split verdict on pleas to refer law replacing CJI in EC panel to larger bench

The Supreme Court on Wednesday delivered a split verdict on the Centre's demand to refer pleas challenging 2023 Act which replaced Chief Justice of India (CJI) with a Cabinet Minister on the selection panel that appoints Election Commissioners. Justice Dipankar Datta rejected the prayer to refer it, while Justice SC Sharma disagreed and backed referring it.
