SC exercises power under Article 142 to dissolve marriage

The Supreme Court has upheld an order dissolving a marriage and observed that, in exercise of its power under Article 142(1) of the Constitution, it has the discretion to dissolve a marriage on the ground of irretrievable breakdown. The Apex Court also reaffirmed that a long period of separation without any hope of reconciliation amounts to cruelty to both parties.
