SC gives split verdict on prior approval clause in corruption law

The Supreme Court delivered split verdict on plea challenging constitutional validity of section 17A of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Section 17A says prior approval is required for probing public servants in discharge of official functions and duties. Justice BV Nagarathna ruled it was unconstitutional while Justice KV Viswanathan held it as valid, provided sanction is decided by Lokpal.
