SC orders SIT probe in 2012 K'taka rape-murder, rejects 'golden hour' claim

Supreme Court directed Karnataka state government to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for a fresh probe into the 2012 rape and murder of a 17-year-old. SC set aside Karnataka HC's 2024 order dismissing reinvestigation stating that the "golden hour" crucial for collecting medical and forensic evidence had passed. SC ordered the fresh probe to be completed in three months.
