SC overrules verdict in 1998 Narasimha Rao bribes-for-vote case
Supreme Court has ruled that elected representatives cannot claim immunity against allegations of bribery for casting a vote or making a speech, overruling a previous 1998 judgment of the top court in the PV Narasimha Rao case. "Such a claim for immunity fails to fulfil to the test whether such immunity is necessary to discharge legislative functions," CJI Chandrachud said.
