SC protects individuals declared foreigners in Assam, says 'Process must be fair'

The Supreme Court on Monday set aside judgement passed by Gauhati High Court that upheld the declaration of 27 individuals as foreigners in Assam. "The process of determining citizenship or declaring someone a foreigner should be fair," the apex court stated. It added that no coercive action could be taken against 27 individuals until another hearing is held by tribunals.
