SC quashes case under UP Gangsters Act, slams authorities

The Supreme Court quashed a case under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters & Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, 1986 saying that it is a case of the “fox guarding the henhouse.” It noted that the competent authority approved the gang-chart without verifying whether it was prepared as per 2021 Rules. It held that the registration of FIR violated the procedural safeguards.
