SC quashes Sambhal violence accused's NSA detention, imposes ₹10 lakh costs on UP govt

The Supreme Court quashed the NSA detention of Mulla Afroz, accused in the 2024 Sambhal violence, and imposed ₹10 lakh costs on the Uttar Pradesh government. The bench said preventive detention could not be based on an alleged confession made in police custody. Afroz was detained under NSA in October 2025 after being granted bail by Allahabad High Court.
