SC says 'pvt universities can't be run for profit'; seeks audited accounts

Supreme Court said private universities must serve the larger public purpose of education and not "run as a profit-making institution". It also directed states and Union territories to submit audited accounts covering income, fees and employee salaries within six weeks. The directions were issued in case involving Amity University, where a student was allegedly harassed for seeking a name change.
