SC stays execution of death penalty of convict in 2008 Ahmedabad blasts case

The Supreme Court on Thursday stayed death penalty of Abbu Abubakar Barelvi, one of the 38 convicts sentenced to capital punishment in the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts case. It passed the order while hearing Barelvi's challenge to Gujarat High Court's judgment upholding his conviction and death sentence. The blasts, which took place on July 26, 2008, killed 56 people.
