SC upholds constitutional validity of Section 6A of Citizenship Act

A five-judge bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud, by a majority of 4-1, upheld the validity of Section 6A of the Citizenship Act, 1955 on Thursday. Under the provision, individuals who entered India between January 1, 1966, and March 25, 1971, and have been residing in Assam can register themselves as Indian citizens. Justice JB Pardiwala penned a dissent.
