Scholz's adviser Joerg Kukies to be Germany’s new finance minister
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has named his ex-economic adviser Jörg Kukies the new finance minister of the minority government. Kukies had previously worked in finance ministry from 2018 to 2021. The move came after Germany's coalition government collapsed on Wednesday after Scholz fired Finance Minister Christian Lindner for "betraying" Scholz' confidence by putting his party's interests on top.
