Scientists create baker’s yeast with over 50% synthetic DNA

Scientists replaced over 50% of baker's yeast cell's genes with synthetic DNA as a part of the Synthetic Yeast Genome Project, marking a significant step towards creating artificial life. They crafted seven synthetic chromosomes in a single cell, a first for a eukaryotic organism like yeast, which stores DNA in a nucleus. The synthetic yeast cells replicated and survived normally.
