Scientists create cell made from non-living chemical parts after 10 yrs

Scientists at the University of Minnesota have created a lab-made synthetic cell, SpudCell, using entirely non-living chemical components. Unlike previous artificial cells, it can complete its fuel cell cycle by absorbing nutrients, replicating its DNA, reproducing and dividing into two new cells. Developed over a decade, SpudCell is not a natural cell and cannot survive independently.
