Scientists discover 'fire amoeba' that can reproduce at 63°C

NASA-supported scientists have discovered an amoeba that can reproduce by division at 63°C, a temperature previously thought impossible for complex life to survive. The organism, found in the heated waters of California's Lassen Volcanic National Park, has been named Incendiamoeba cascadensis, also dubbed the fire amoeba. It can also remain active at about 64°C while searching for food.
