Scientists discover rare 'earth mango' fungus in Kerala

Scientists have discovered a rare medicinal fungus, locally called "earth mango," in Karakurussi village in Kerala. The mushroom-like organism which is scientifically referred to as Sclerotium stipitatum, grows hidden beneath the soil, and is unrelated to edible mangoes. Found near termite habitats, the fungus has traditionally been linked to remedies for ailments such as cough and cold.
