Scientists discover water structures surrounding DNA

Scientists have reported the first observations of water superstructures surrounding the DNA molecule. DNA is a chiral biomolecule, meaning it is not superimposable on its mirror image. The study "DNA's chiral spine of hydration" found chiral water structures following helical DNA strands. Researchers said the finding could help develop materials resistant to bacteria which grow on wet surfaces.
