Scientists find oldest accurately dated 700-yrs-old banyan tree in Bihar

Scientists have identified the oldest accurately dated banyan tree (Ficus benghalensis) in Munger, estimated to be around 700 years old. The tree's cellulose samples were dated using high-precision Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) radiocarbon analysis and calibrated with OxCal software. Researchers said the method could help governments scientifically identify and protect significant trees.
