Scientists identify protein that helps parasite exit immune system

Scientists at York University discovered ESB2 protein that acts like a “molecular shredder” helping deadly parasite responsible for sleeping sickness evade the immune system. The shredder allows the parasite to flood its surface with protective proteins while suppressing other signals that might give it away. Notably, ESB2 is in parasite's protein production centre, known as Expression Site Body.
