Scientists make up fake illness with 'lying loser' author, AI chatbots treat it as real

AI chatbots mistook a fake eye condition for a real illness in an experiment led by Swedish researcher Almira Osmanovic Thunström. Scientists published two papers on a made-up disease, "Bixonimania", credited to a fictional author whose name means "The Lying Loser". Microsoft's Copilot and Google's Gemini later described it as a real condition "caused by excessive exposure to blue light".
