Scientists map neurons' activity in brain using RNA 'barcodes'

Scientists at Illinois University developed a technique that uses RNA “barcodes” to map how neurons connect, explaining how complex brain networks are organised and how they function. The team mapped over 1,000 neurons in a mouse brain circuit which links two brain regions. Being fast and scalable, this process could accelerate research into neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's.
