Scientists reveal what gives agama lizard Spiderman-like colours

The Mwanza flat-headed rock agama is popularly called 'Spider-Man lizard because of the striking red and blue colours which come from their unique skin cell arrangement. Layered chromatophores reflect specific wavelengths, creating metallic reds and blues in males. The colours intensify during mating season. The brighter their colour, the better their sexual health and genetic fitness.
